The following were inducted the Finneytown Schools Hall of Fame for 2004:

Dan McNeal (Living Legend)  - Mr. McNeal retired from teaching at Finneytown in 1984.  He initiated the physics program for the then “new” high school and developed the lab facility.  He also taught IPS and other introductory science courses for both junior high and high school students.  He worked with elementary teachers in the 1960’s to develop a process approach to science programs and with a K-12 Gifted and Creative Committee.  He was the boy’s basketball coach (freshman, reserve and junior high) from 1966-1984.

Mr. McNeal has been awarded the DuPont Science Summer Fellowship.  Additionally, he has been recognized and awarded: General Electric Physics Summer Fellowship, six National Science Foundation Fellowships, Ohio High School Basketball Association Hall of Fame Awards (Boys 1983, Girls 1992).

He and his wife, Dorothy, raised three children – all Finneytown graduates.

Jennifer Higgins Cooper (Class of 1986) —  While at Finneytown, she played for the soccer and basketball teams.  The 1984 basketball team won district for the first time in school history.  She earned All-time Leading Scorer (1117) and Rebounder (1095) as well as Enquirer Player of the Week and named to the HCNL All Star Team (1984-1985).

She lettered her Junior and Senior years at Miami University for basketball.  During her junior year, the team won the Mid-American Conference Championship (1990-1991).  She graduated from Miami University as a Scholar-Athlete with a B.S. in Secondary Science Education.  She later enrolled at the University of West Alabama, where she was a teaching graduate assistant, and graduated with a M.A.T. in Biology. She has been named as the 2003 NISOD Excellence in Teaching Medallion Winner, 2003 Lamplight Award Winner and three times named to Who’s Who in American Teachers.

Jenny has coached all 13 years at the Junior College level as the only female assistant to a Men’s basketball program in the nation.  The teams have won numerous league championships, a State Championship, a Regional Championship and made a National Tournament Sweet 16 appearance.  In 1986, after graduation she played in china for the United States International Sports Exchange.

She presently resides as the Vice President of the ICC Faculty and will assume the Presidential duties in 2005.  Jenny lives in Fulton, MS.
for local and state teacher publications. 

Dan and Sue Hummer  - Dan has been the Finneytown Athletic Department public address announcer for various sporting events since 1991.  He is also president of STAR Soccer Club and led the formation of the STAR Soccer Club (Springfield Township Area) by combining operations with Winton United and Wyoming Soccer Clubs.

Sue has served on the Finneytown Secondary PTA as president and has been the publisher of the PTA Phone Book since 1993 as well as having served as Newsletter Editor, Mini-grants committee, After-Prom, and other committees on the PTA.  She has been a volunteer for several years at the Whitaker Elementary library, Book Fair, and Whitaker Track and Field Day.

Dan and Sue established the Stephanie Hummer Memorial Projects in 1994 in memory of their daughter (Finneytown High School graduate 1994). They have chosen to use the funds for Finneytown community projects.  The Stephanie Hummer Memorial Project (SHMP) was able to secure the land for the Stephanie Hummer Park in Finneytown and to donate that land to Springfield Township for community use as a soccer facility.  Their contributions to Finneytown schools include the Wildcat mascot costume in conjunction with Stagecraft and the Whitaker Elementary illuminated display sign. Small donations have included book awards for character education at Whitaker and high school play/musical sponsorships.

In 1995, they established the Stephanie Hummer “Big Heart” award to recognize Finneytown Middle School students who volunteer, display school spirit, participate in school activities, and show kindness and consideration of others.

Dr. Carol Braun Trapnell  (Class of 1975) —  graduated from Finneytown High School in 1975.  She was a student council representative, participated in Academic Team, a member of the National Honor Society and received the William Danforth Award, as well as played basketball, tennis and softball.

Carol attended the University of Cincinnati and received her B.S in Pharmacy from the Ohio State University College of Pharmacy graduating cum laude in 1980.  She graduated from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1984.  Her post-graduate studies were Internal Medicine Residency at the Ohio State University from 1984-1987 and then Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship at Georgetown University from 1990-1992.  She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT).  She volunteered at a free clinic in Washington, DC in the 1980’s.  She is active in her church and volunteers in the public schools in Howard County, MD.

She is currently Vice President, Medical Affairs and Clinical Research of GloboMax, a strategic pharmaceutical development division of ICON plc, Hanover, MD.

Jeff Jacoby (Class of 1973)  - Jeff has been doing sports in the Knoxville market since 1983.  A 1977 graduate of Tennessee Tech, Jeff was a starter at middle linebacker for the 1975 Ohio Valley Conference Golden Eagle football team.  While in school, he served as Sports Director for the campus radio station, WTTU, and did play-by-play for the Tennessee Tech women’s basketball team.  After graduation, Jeff f joined the staff at WHUB as a salesperson and sportscaster...continuing his association with Tennessee Tech women’s basketball, taking the broadcasts to the commercial station.

Jeff also worked for WCET-TV as the play-by-play voice for Tennessee Tech football and basketball replays and produced and hosted the weekly highlight shows. After moving to Knoxville, Jeff began a long relationship with the Vol network which has included two different stints, from 1984-88 and from 1998-present.  Jeff has worked on the football network as a scoreboard host and also did locker room interviews during the 1998 National Championship season.  From 1999-2004, he teamed with John Wilkerson to form the broadcast team for UT Baseball. 

Jeff came to WNOX/WIVK in January 2000 as the morning sportscaster for both stations and continues to serve in that capacity. 

Bruce Humphrey (Class of 1972) —  He was active in the Concert Band all four years as well as Marching Band (freshman, sophomore, and junior years) and he played in the orchestra for the musicals when not performing.

Bruce graduated from the Miami University Oxford with a B.S. in Radio, TV, and Film in 1976.  While at Miami, he worked in many phases of production, news and on-air programming (disc jockey/board operator).  He also produced numerous radio dramas.  He graduated Indiana University in 1979 with a Master of Science in Telecommunications. While in grad school he worked on the feature film “Breaking Away” and at WMAQ-TV in Chicago.

Bruce then graduated from the Director’s Guild of America Producer Training Plan in 1982 and has been a member of the DGA since. He continues to speak at Assistant Director’s Training program seminars and mentors students and graduates pursuing careers in the film and television industry.

Bruce’s credits include:  Assistant Director on Dr. Vegas, The Practice, Prey, Sliders, Timecop, Sisters, and Quantum Leap.  His feature film credits include: Assistant Director on The Vagrant produced by Mel Brooks, directed by Chris Wallas; Big Business starring Better Midler and Lilly Tomlin, directed by Jim Abrahams; and Blue Screen/Optical Effects Unit and 2nd Unit for The Lost Boys directed by Joel Schumacher.

Bruce resides in Studio City, CA with his wife Deborah and their two children.

Dr. Don Nofizger (Class of 1957) —   He attended Goshen College and graduate in 1961 having played tennis, swimming, basketball and was involved in YPCA service projects.

While holding down three part-time jobs to pay tuition, he graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1965.  He interned at Christ Hospital in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Medical Center.  He was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2000 and recognized as Teacher of the Year at UC College of Medicine in 2002.   He was elected Fellow of Alpha Omega Alpha (International Medical Honor Society) in 2002.  Don has encouraged sports medicine programs and adoption services.

Don helped to establish the sports medicine program at Finneytown High School. He and his wife, Ann, have two children who also graduated Finneytown High School.
