The Scoop: Back-to-School Dates, School Hours, Fees, Etc.

Here's a one-stop look at back-to-school information you'll need.


Back-to-School Dates:

 Aug. 21 First day for Grades 6 and 7

 Aug. 21, 22 and 23 Kindergarten Testing

 Aug. 21 Staggered Start for Grades 1-5

 Aug. 22 First Day for Grades 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 (Grades 6 and 7 also attend.)

 Aug. 22 Staggered Start for Grades 1-5

  Aug. 23 All Students Grades 1-12 Attend

  Aug. 24 Staggered Start for Kindergarten

  Aug. 25 Staggered Start for Kindergarten

  Aug. 28 All Kindergarten Students Attend


Building Hours:

Brent Elementary: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Please do not drop children off before 8:10 a.m.)

Whitaker Elementary: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Secondary Campus: 8 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. dismissal for middle school, and 2:59 p.m. dismissal for high school. Students can enter the building at 7:45 a.m. (Secondary bell schedule here.)


Student Fees:

Elementary fees:

   Kindergarten $40

   Grade 1 and Grade 2: $25

   Grade 3 and Grade 4: $30

   Grade 5: $35     Fifth-Grade Camp Fee: $75

Secondary Campus Fees:

   Grade 6: $55

   Grade 7 and Grade 8: $75

   Grade 9 and Grade 10: $105

   Grade 11: $95

   Grade 12: $80

   Student Parking Pass: $55

Fees can be paid online by going to, and clicking on the PaySchools quick link at upper left. They can also be paid by check, made out to the Finneytown Board of Education.


School Supply Lists:

Visit, and click on the School Supply List quick link at upper left. Note: High school students generally receive their lists from teachers on the first day of school.



State law sets requirements for immunizations. Parents of new students, kindergartners, seventh graders and twelfth graders, please read this important reminder from District Nurse Andrea Lewis.


Breakfast and lunch prices:


   Breakfast: Free.     K-1 Lunch: $2.50.    Milk: $.50


   Breakfast: Free.       Lunch: $2.50.        Milk: $.50

Secondary Campus:

   Breakfast: $1.50.     Lunch: Regular meal $3; Super Meal $3.50.   Milk: $.50



The Transportation Department mailed postcards to families on Aug. 7 with each student's bus route information. If you have questions, you may call the Transportation Department at 728-7220. Buses may be running a little early or late the first week or so of school as drivers learn new routes.

Transportation guidelines: Students in grades K-8 who live more than one mile from their school will receive bus transportation. Students in grades K-8 who live less than one mile from their school will not receive bus transportation. Students in grades 9-12 do not receive transportation.

Secondary Campus Schedule Pick-up for Grades 6-12: Tuesday, Aug. 15, 9 a.m. to noon, Media Center.

Brent Popsicles on the Playground for Kindergarten and new First-Grade Families: Thursday, Aug. 10, 6:30 p.m.

Whitaker Back-to-School Celebration, Thursday, Aug. 17, 5:30 p.m.

Brent Back-to-School Celebration, Friday, Aug. 18, 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

Secondary Campus Open House and Fall Sports Meeting: Monday, Aug. 21, 5 p.m., PAC


Extended Care

The Extended Care Program is for children whose parents work are not able to be home before or after regular school hours.  The program is housed at Brent and serves Brent, Whitaker and Sixth graders at the middle school. Whitaker/Sixth graders will be bused from Brent in the morning and bused back to Brent in the afternoon.  The hours of operation are 7 a.m. until the start of school and from the end of the school day until 5:30 p.m.  Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis since there is limited availability.
