National Merit Commended Students Xander Hatton and Allie Towner with FLSD staff members

More National Merit honors for FHS seniors

The Finneytown Local School District is proud to announce that seniors Xander Hatton and Allie Towner have been named 2018 National Merit Commended Students. Of 1.6 million students taking the PSAT qualifying exam, only 50,000 students attain Commended Student status.

National Merit honors are among the highest distinctions a U.S. high school senior can earn. On Sept. 13, Finneytown's own Joel Steimle was named a National Merit Semifinalist -- putting him in the top 1 percent of seniors across the nation.

A Purrfect Evening: Brent Family Reading Night

The children's-book favorite, Pete the Cat, made his presence known everywhere at Brent Elementary's spectacular Family Reading Night, Sept. 7. Brent students and their families listened to Pete stories, ate snacks mentioned in Pete books and played games and made crafts that had Pete's paw prints all over them.

FLSD is sending sincere thanks to the Cincinnati Arts Association for awarding Whitaker Elementary music teacher Heidi Johnson a transportation grant that will give Whitaker fourth graders the opportunity to see Black Violin at the Aronoff Center for the Performing Arts in October.
