24 Years of Service to Finneytown

Posted on: November 17, 2015

Jerri Green's dedication, humility and commitment have touched the lives of dozens of students with special needs. They've also earned her November Support Staff Member of the Month honors.

Jerri has lived in Finneytown her entire life, attending Finneytown Schools and graduating in 1979 from Finneytown High School. Twenty four years ago she began working as a special education assistant at Brent Elementary. Through the years she has also worked at Finneytown Middle School, Cottonwood Elementary, and Whitaker Elementary.

Jerri has many happy memories of being the special education assistant to Judy Keefer for 13 years at Cottonwood. Currently she provides support to fourth-grade students with special needs. She is also the administrator of the S.O.S. at Whitaker, a program begun many years ago at Cottonwood. In Jerri’s words, “This is a program that is near and dear to my heart.”

Last summer, Jerri and her husband, Kevin celebrated 35 years of marriage. They had one child, Eileen, who attended Cottonwood Elementary. Jerri credits Eileen for launching her career and interest in the field of special education. Some of Jerri’s favorite pastimes are gardening and swimming. When asked about a memorable moment in her career, she answered, “providing support to a little guy named Justin Heck. Justin passed away, but before doing so he left an impression on my life and in my heart. He left an impression that I will never be able to explain. I am still friends with his family.”

Jerri would like to be known for “being an advocate and educator for all children.”
