5 things you need to know about ALICE drills

Posted on: October 6, 2015

Recently your child's school may have taken part in an ALICE drill. Here's a little background on what it is and why schools participate.

1. ALICE is proactive safety training that focuses on situations involving an intruder.

2. It trains staff and students to use all available options in responding to a crisis.

3. Ohio law requires three ALICE drills in each school building every year. Two involve evacuation of some students; the third involves a lockdown.

4. ALICE stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evaluate.
