The children's-book favorite, Pete the Cat, made his presence known everywhere at Brent Elementary's spectacular Family Reading Night, Sept. 7. Brent students and their families listened to Pete stories, ate snacks mentioned in Pete books and played games and made crafts that had Pete's paw prints all over them.

Greeting guests as they entered the building was an eye-CATching 6-by-18-foot mural made by kindergarten aide Olivia Ehrnschwender and her father, Dave.

As a Read Aloud School, Brent finds creative and clever ways to support student literacy and family reading. As this year's building theme, Pete the Cat will -- as cats do -- wind his way into everything that goes on at Brent. Fur real!
