A Random Act of Kindness by the Springfield Twp. Police Department

Posted on: May 5, 2016

Springfield Township Police Sgt. Nick Peterson thought it would be nice to reward young people who consistently do the right thing. It turned into a special night at Great American Ballpark for six Finneytown Middle School students.

As soon as Sgt. Peterson suggested the idea of sending some local students to a Reds game, his fellow officers along with dispatchers and clerical workers -- a total of 40 township employees -- pitched in. "It was an overwhelming response," he says. The end result: enough contributions to send 11 students -- six from Finneytown Schools and five from Mount Healthy Schools -- to the May 4th game against the San Francisco Giants. Each student was allowed to invite one family member. Every student and family member also received a $10 food voucher.

The students chosen to attend were Jaiden Ballard, Manaj Poudel, Jermaine Ballard, Jr., R-Nez Herron, Raniah Dennis and Olivia Angert. "These are kids who, on a regular basis, do the right thing, or turned their grades around and worked hard," Sgt. Peterson said. "We wanted to send the message that their doing good things is recognized by us. We want kids who are doing the right thing to know that they're supported by us."
