Come Read with Us!

Posted on: May 10, 2016

Reading is never out of season, but summer seems especially  well-suited for it. Join us May 17, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McNulty Football Field for a collective hour of uninterrupted reading.

Bring a blanket or lawn chair and something delicious to read. And while you're there, stock up on cheap reads with a stop at the K-12 Buy One, Get-One-Free Book Fair.

It's the start of a Summer of Literacy for Finneytown students. Starting June 27, Brent and Whitaker elementary libraries will be open Mondays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Secondary Campus media center will be open Mondays from noon to 4 p.m., from June 13 to Aug. 8. Book Club discussions will take place from noon to 1 p.m.

Reading is a summer pleasure, but if you need more motivation, consider this: Children who read at least six books over the summer maintain or improve their reading skills, while those who don't read at all can lost almost a grade-level of reading skills.
