Fill the Bus. . . with Toys

Posted on: November 25, 2015

Leave it to cheerleaders to know how to fill the holiday season with cheer. For the third year, the Finneytown Sparkle Cats are hosting the Fill the Bus campaign to provide toys for patients at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and local families. Their goal: 2,000 toys!

The toy drive is in honor of Savannah Day, a 16-year-old cheerleader from Virginia who started the Cheer 4 Savannah toy drive two years ago when she was a patient at Cincinnati Children's.

The Sparkle Cats will collect toys at Finneytown basketball games on Dec. 1, 4, 7 and 11, as well as at Springfield Township's WinterFest on Dec. 5 and at the Finneytown Wings and Rings on Dec. 12, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Savannah Day will attend the Dec. 1 Finneytown basketball game. On Dec. 4, Finneytown High School has challenged Madeira HIgh School to see which school can collect more toys at the Finneytown-Madeira basketball game.

"The cheerleaders realize the holiday season is not about them, it's about the giving, about the community and what you do for others who are less fortunate," says Brian Watson, Fill the Bus coordinator. "Between this project and the Sparkle Cats, it's opened the girls' eyes that it is not a 'me' world."
