Hitting It Out of the Park: Byron Famble Accepts Athletic/Academic Scholarship

Posted on: January 4, 2016

Finneytown senior Byron Famble has been playing baseball since he was 8. His .353 batting average, tours with three select teams and love for the game caught the eye of Pittsburgh's Point Park University.

"I like the campus -- it was small, the classes were small and you can have a personal relationship with the professors," says Byron, who is accepting an athletic and academic scholarship from the university. This fall he was one of 20 students invited to visit the college, practice with the baseball team and tour Pittsburgh with the team co-captains.

Byron credits Finneytown baseball coach Asif Shah with getting him a look from colleges. "He's really turning our program around, and he's determined to get us into college."

Byron is hoping to play centerfield for the Pioneers and will major in sports management, hoping to become an athletic director or a sports agent. "Everyone in my family is excited," he says.
