More National Merit honors for FHS seniors

National Merit Commended Students Xander Hatton and Allie Towner with FLSD staff members

The Finneytown Local School District is proud to announce that seniors Xander Hatton and Allie Towner have been named 2018 National Merit Commended Students. Of 1.6 million students taking the PSAT qualifying exam, only 50,000 students attain Commended Student status.

Xander has been very involved in music activities at FHS. This year he is a pit section leader in marching band and is a three-year participant in OMEA District 14 Honor Band. Xander, who plays 15+ percussion instruments, has played the pit for high school musicals. He is a member of the Finneytown Academic Team, has earned a 5.237 GPA and puts in 17 to 20 hours a week at his part time job as a chef at a local restaurant.

Allie is president of the National Honor Society, band vice president and a house captain for Kopke House. She was elected president of her ninth and tenth grade classes, and was chosen as captain of the swim team and the Finneytown Academic Team. Allie's volunteer efforts have ranged from tutoring with Whiz Kids at Whitaker Elementary to assisting in the medical intensive care unit at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center to mission trips with her church to Nepal. Allie maintains a 5.3 GPA.
