New Book Recounts a Half-Century of Theater Arts History

Posted on: November 3, 2015

Ask any alumnus, parent or community member what Finneytown Schools are known for, and someone is sure to say, "The arts." Now legendary theater teacher Burt McCollom has captured the unfolding of the district's performing arts program in a new book. Sales will fund the new Finneytown Performing Arts Scholarship.

Mr. McCollom wrote the book, "Finneytown Performing Arts: A Historical Appreciation & Nostalgic Scrapbook," over three years with the help of his successor, Shawn Maus. It uses photos, personal anecdotes and historical narrative to show the evolution of the performing arts from its 1960 roots in the secondary school Multi-Purpose Building to present-day productions in the William R. Swartzel Performing Arts Center.

For alumni -- and their parents -- it will be a reminder of great times and glorious productions.

Mr. McCollom will hold book-signings at the Finneytown Holiday Market, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Multi-Purpose Room on the Secondary Campus, and Nov. 28, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Finneytown Skyline, 9115 Winton Road. It is also available by visiting the Facebook page for the Finneytown Performing Arts. Cost is $25.
