High-school swimmers from across Southwestern Ohio compete for the Friends of the Classic Scholarship. Six young women and six young men are named finalists. Three from each group are scholarship winners. This year, Finneytown senior Julia Germann is among them.

Julia competed against finalists from Sycamore, Mason, Versailles and Oak Hills to win the scholarship. The award is based on academic achievement as well as extracurricular and athletic involvement, along with recommendations from coaches, high-school staff and community leaders.

Julia's resume is impressive: a GPA of 4.67, president of the Senior Class, National Honor Society member, Cincinnati Hills League Varsity All-Academic for four years, three-year team captain and Most Valuable Swimmer for the varsity swim team, and volunteer in the community and at her church.

Her coach Bill Profitt ended his nomination letter for Julia, "She displays such a positive attitude toward all that you are just glad she is on your team."
