That was wisdom shared by Class of 2016 valedictorian Luke Brueggemeyer at the May 27 Commencement ceremony. Read on for other memorable quotes from the evening along with the valedictorian's and salutatorian's speeches.

Alexandra Hedrick complimented the class as only a chemistry teacher could: "You have been a compassionate and caring collection of molecules." Her colleague, biology teacher Matt Breines, told the class, "The past four years have been about you. Life is not about you any more. Your task is to make other people feel better about themselves because of what you do and say."

Class salutatorian Katherine Germann told her classmates, "Never doubt the value of your small, kind gestures," and summed up the feeling that makes high school commencement a poignant and turning-point event: "I didn't really know the beauty of what I had until it was time to move on."
