Posted on: March 14, 2016 10:00 am

Dear Parents/Guardians of Students in Grades 7-12,

With the implementation of the Common Core Standards, the new generation of assessments began last year. The American Institute of Research (AIR) assessments will assess students in grades 7 -12. Students in grades 7 – 10 will be assessed in Language Arts/ English and Math.  The math assessments are specific to the student’s course enrollment – Math 7, Math 8, Algebra I, Geometry.  Science assessments will occur in grade 8 and for students enrolled in Biology.  Students enrolled in either high school U.S. History or Government will also be assessed. These assessments will occur in two phases:  Part One and Part Two.

 The AIR assessments will be administered April 6, 7, 12, 13, 20, 21, 26, 27.

April 6 & 7: English/Language Arts assessments

April 12 & 13:  Math tests for 7th grade, 8th grade, Algebra I and Geometry

April 20 & 21: Science tests for 8th and Biology

April 26 & 27: U.S. History and Government

Students testing will be required to report to school and be in their assigned testing area by 8:05AM.

On April 20 & 21, 7th grade students will report to school as usual. They will participate in an event in the PAC while 8th are taking the Science assessment.

All assessments this year will be computer based. Students will need a writing implement to use when scrap paper is permitted.

Juniors and seniors will report to school at 10:05 on April 6, 7, 12, & 13. Juniors and seniors not enrolled in Biology will report at 10:05 on April 20 & 21.

Additional information concerning this next generation of assessments as well as practice problems are available at http://education.ohio.gov/Topics/Testing/Ohios-State-Test-in-ELA-Math-Science-SocialStudies

A summary grid of all testing is provided at the conclusion of this letter.

I cannot stress enough the importance of these testing dates. As parents / guardians you can do the following to help make this week successful:

1. Make sure your student gets a good night rest, is in attendance and on time.

2. Encourage your student to answer every question. Sections of this test require writing and leaving questions blank can have a negative impact on a student’s score.

Thank you for your cooperation with the testing schedule. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.
