Hayley Richardson commits to Transylvania University

Hayley Richardson's accomplishments on the softball mound and in the classroom made her an attractive candidate for colleges. Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., is awfully glad she's coming its way.

Hayley has left her mark at Finneytown, holding the career record for strikeouts -- 397 and counting -- and still having the chance to break her own single-season strikeout record (139). (She's flirting with the career home run record as well.) She's equally as comfortable in the classroom. "Hayley isn't just successful in softball," Coach Dave Wolferst told the audience gathered for her athletic signing, "she's successful at life. You ask her -- or her parents -- to do something, and you know it will be done right."

Chase Barnett, an admission counselor at Transylvania who traveled to Finneytown for the ceremony, said everyone who came in contact with Hayley was eager to admit her. "I loved her application and everything she stands for, but it was actually meeting her that solidified it," Ms. Barnett said. "She's an all-star -- athletically, academically and just all-around."

Hayley plans to study exercise science and pursue a career in occupational therapy or physical therapy.
