Finneytown would like to congratulate ONE student who has recently been recognized as a National Merit FINALIST. This is a huge honor, as this student’s PSAT score was in the top 1% nationwide. This student went through a rigorous application process and was one of 16,000 students chosen NATIONWIDE. We would like to recognize Joel Steimle as Finneytown’s 2018 National Merit FINALIST. Please congratulate Joel if you see him this week.

 

DON’T FORGET THAT THE JERSEY MIKE’S HOUSE COMPETITION/FUNDRAISER ENDS THIS SATURDAY!! You only have a couple more days to win points and save money on delicious Jersey Mike’s subs.

In honor of Black History Month, today we celebrate August Wilson. Wilson was an American playwright who received 2 Pulitzer Prizes for drama. His plays depicted comic & tragic aspects of the African American experience in the 20th century.

Juniors need to arrive to school by 8:00 AM where they will be checked in and directed to their testing location. The test will take approximately 4-5 hours and students will be dismissed to go home at the end of the exam. They will have the option to pick up a packed lunch from the cafeteria. Grades 9, 10 and 12 will NOT need to report to school on February 27 in order to provide the best testing environment for this college entrance exam. Grades 6-8 will report for a regular school day.

The Jersey Mike's fundraiser/competition was a hit!! 220 coupons were redeemed. Ebenezer and PEM tied with 48 coupons each, so they each received 50 points. Pringle came in as the runner up with 36 coupons, so they received 20 points. Huge thanks to everyone who participated, and congratulations to these 3 houses!

Juniors need to arrive at school by 8:00 AM, where they will be checked in and directed to their testing location. The test will take approximately 4-5 hours and students will be dismissed to go home at the end of the exam. February is Black History Month. Today we celebrate Sir Sidney Poitier. In 1964, Poitier became the first black actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role in Lilies of the Field. In 1967, he starred in three successful films, all of which dealt with issues involving race and race relations: To Sir, With Love; In the Heat of the Night; and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. Today, Poitier turns 91.

Congratulations to 8th graders Natalie Oudomsouk and Madison Robb. Their art was chosen for the 38th Annual Young People’s Art Exhibition sponsored by the Ohio Art Education Association. There are nine regions in Ohio representing the OAEA. This year’s show includes 130 student artworks from all over the state.​

 

There will be a House meeting in the library today at 3:15.

 

Diamond Oaks will be holding an open house today from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at their campus in Harrison.

This Sunday, November 19th, students from Finneytown have the opportunity to go to Playhouse in the Park to see the tech/dress rehearsal for Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” It is a free show, open to all students who have not been suspended first semester. Since this is happening on a Sunday, students will need to be driven and accompanied by a parent/adult. The school will not be providing transportation.  You will need to arrive at 962 Mt. Adams Circle no later than 9:30.  The rehearsal will finish at 12:00.  Students should return permission slips today. This is a free event where hundreds of colleges from across the country will have tables set up and you can talk one-on-one with college representatives. Many colleges give away free t-shirts along with brochures providing information about their college. You can also attend free workshops on taking the ACT, how to pay for college, how the military can fund your college, and many more. No registration is needed. Just show up!   • Beginning today, students who signed up for AP exams will begin testing. Schedules are posted in locker areas.

  

        Morning tests will BEGIN promptly at 8:00 AM and afternoon exams at 12:00. Please arrive 15 minutes early to ensure that you do not miss the exam. All exams will be given in the library unless Mrs. Coker has told you otherwise.

       Students are excused from class for the WHOLE day, so don’t worry about attending class or even calling into the attendance office.

       Bring a photo ID, water bottle, and a snack (for the break). If you do not have a photo ID, see Mrs. Coker ASAP.

      Bring several #2 non-mechanical pencils and a pen with black or blue ink.

      Leave your cell phone in your locker or car. If you bring it in the library, it will be collected and stored in the counseling office. You will NOT have access to it until testing is over for the day.

All participants must raise $100 in fundraisers to come to the all-nighter. Participants will also get a free T-shirt and ALOT OF HOURS FOR NHS. Teachers and students are welcome. DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS (10/31/16)

 

  • Congratulations to the Finneytown Marching Wildcats on their Superior rating at OMEA State Marching Band Finals!  Finneytown was the only Class B Band to receive a Superior rating of the four bands performing in their block.

 

            This season the marching band has won first place in Class B at every contest they             attended, picking up Best Colorguard, Best Percussion, and Best Visual.  At the             Loveland contest they were Reserve Grand Champion, and at Tecumseh they were in             the top 3 over 23 bands.

 

            This season the marching band outscored bands three times our size, and our percussion             received a 9.5 out of 10, breaking a school record.

             The Marching Band staff would like to thank Dr. Dinan and our Superintendent Mrs. Noe             for coming out to support us yesterday.  We are Finneytown!

DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS (10/24/16)

  •  Congratulations to the marching band on their 1st place win at Tecumseh.  The Band received all superior ratings from the judging panel. This contest had the toughest competition of the season, there were bands performing from all around the state of Ohio.  The Band also received best percussion, breaking a school record by scoring a 9.5 in percussion. 

         The Band will be performing at O.M.E.A State marching band finals on Sunday at 1:15              pm.

                      

  • Your Finneytown high school cross country boys and girls teams finished their seasons at the District Championships this past Saturday at Voice of America park.

    Our girls finished 6th and were led by co-captains Julia Brueggemeyer and McKenzie Jones.  We had a full girls team at districts. Congratulations to Alexia Bonds, Renisicia Essex, Carissa Ruffin, and Julia Deuitch for a great race.

    Our boys also had a great race and were led by team captain Joel Steimle.  Congratulationss also to Blake Bryant, Nick Behanan, Josh Mitchell, Kane McClure, Duncan Connell, and Brett Sanders for a great season.

DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS (10/20/16)

 

  • At last nights' CHL end of season golf meeting, Joe Ward earned All-League Honorable Mention.  This is only the second Finneytown golfer in 4 years to get league honors.  Congratulations Joe on a terrific golf season!

  

  • Our Finneytown Cross Country teams had a good racing day at the Cincinnati Hills League meet this past weekend.

    At the league championship, many of our middle school boys PR’d, and, for the 2nd week in a row, our top 5 were all under 15 minutes.  8th grader Brennan Jones was our top finisher, followed by 8th grader Alex Zestermann.  Our middle school boys team finished 4th as a team in the CHL.  Brennan Jones finished 10th overall and was selected as 2nd team All-CHL!

    Our middle school girls continued their amazing run this season, finishing as CHL runner-up as a team!  7th grader Jessica Sanders is the 2016 CHL middle school champion and runner of the year.  8th graders Allie Helmes and Maria Seith were not far behind at 6th and 8th.  7th grader Abby Jeffries finished 17th, just one spot out of medal contention.  Jessica and Allie were named 1st team All-CHL, and Maria was 2nd team All-CHL.

    Boys team captain, Junior Joel Steimle, was our top finisher at 27th, followed closely by Blake Bryant.

    Girls team co-captain, Junior Julia Brueggmeyer, had a season record and was our top girls finisher with a fantastic race, Junior McKenzie Jones, even with a twisted ankle, came in close behind Julia and also set a season record.  We are still looking to add 2-3 women on this team for the district championships, come and be a part of something special!

    Thanks for your support, and we hope to see you at the District championships on October 22.

 

         In addition to the CHL championships this past weekend, our middle school cross country          teams had their final meet on Monday…the All city championship at Colerain.  Our Girls          came in as runner up for the small schools division in the more competitive 8th grade          race.  7th grader Jessica Sanders came in 5th overall in that 8th grade race, which also          had both large and school teams running together.  We ran all 7th and 8th graders together          in the 8th grade race, which makes it even more impressive as we came in 5th overall          when counting the large schools.  Our Boys came in 5th in small school division with          Brennan Jones as our top finisher.  It was a great, fun night and an amazing end to          Finneytown's most successful middle school cross country season in its history.  If you are          looking for a sport next fall, check out cross country as our future is bright!"                                                                                                   

  •  The boys varsity soccer team will host their opening round tournament game this evening.  Game time is at 7pm and all tickets are $6.

   On Super Wednesday, October 19th- you will report to school at 9:00 and go directly to the PAC    for a presentation by the well-known Steve Smith on social media. After this presentation, you    will be divided into groups and be assigned a teacher to spend the day with. You will attend    three 35 minute sessions. Topics include:

 

  • 1-     Naviance- you will take a career interest profile which will recommend a variety of careers for you to consider and what majors
  • 2-      Stress management- we all get stressed but what can we do to manage our stress. You will walk away with specific tools you can use to help manage every day stress.
  • 3-      GPA/College admission- How do you calculate GPA? In this session you will learn how colleges decide who they will accept and what factors they consider in addition to GPA and test scores
  • All sophomores will be dismissed at 12:00.

DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS   (10/3/16)

 

  • Congratulations to the Finneytown Marching Band on their 1st place finish at the Loveland Band Contest.  Finneytown faced their biggest rivals, Madeira and Deer Park, coming out on top of the competition. The Band's amazing performance earned them a spot in the O.M.E.A Marching Band State Finals. Our marching will be one of the few marching bands in the state to be competing at the State Level.  The band out scored multiple bands/school districts that were twice our size.  Please come out and  cheer on the Marching Band this Saturday at the Lockland contest.

  •  Our Finneytown Cross Country teams had a good racing day at the St. Xavier Cross Country Invitational meet this past weekend. At one of the largest cross country meets in the state, many of our middle school boys PR’d, and, for the 2nd week in a row, our top 5 were all under 15 minutes.  8th grader Brennan Jones was our top finisher, followed by 8th grader Alex Zestermann.  Our middle school boys team finished 21st as a team.  Our middle school girls continued their amazing run even with missing one of our top girls, finished 10th as a team.  7th grader Jessica Sanders came in 5th overall with another amazing time of 12:39.  8th grader Allie Helmes and Maria Seith were not far behind at 28th and 29th.  Boys team captain, Junior Joel Steimle, was our top finisher at 31st in a large race.  Girls team co-captain, Junior McKenzie Jones, had a season record and was our top girls finisher.  We are still looking to add 2-3 women on this team this season, come and be a part of something special!  Thanks for your support, and we hope to see you at the CHL championships on October 15.

  • Congratulations to Senior Joe Ward and the Finneytown golf team for a fantastic season.  At sectionals yesterday "Jumpin Joe Ward" fired a 114 and "Crushin Calvin Viola" kept the Wildcats in contention with a career best 102.  "Jovial Josh Haskin" blasted the golf ball off the tee, and "Sergio Gonzalo Pelazes Garcia" had a career best round and smiled a lot.

  • ​Girls Middle School volleyball teams will play Deer Park in the MP.  7th grade game is at 4:30; 8th grade game is at 5:30.
  • ​Girls Varsity and JV volleyball teams will play Madeira in the Main Gym.  JV will play at 5:30, and the Varsity will play at 6:30. 

 

  • ​Our Finneytown Cross Country teams had a good racing day at a very hot and hilly Seven Hills Cross Country Invitational meet this past weekend.

    On an extremely difficult course, many of our middle school boys PR’d, and our top 5 were all under 15 minutes.  8th grader Brennan Jones was our top finisher at 17th place, followed by 8th grader Alex Zestermann.  Our middle school boys team finished 8th as a team.

    Our middle school girls continued their amazing run even with missing one of our top girls, finished 3rd as a team.  7th grader Jessica Sanders came in 1st place with an amazing time of 12:32.  8th grader Allie Helmes was not far behind finishing 4th.

    Our high school boys came in 9th as a team.  Boys team captain, Junior Joel Steimle, ran a great race and finished 10th, followed closely by sophomores Nick Behanan and Blake Bryant who both finished in the top 20.

    Our high school girls did extremely well considering we did not have a full team.  Girls team co-captain, Junior McKenzie Jones, ran a solid race and finished 13th, followed by her other co-captain, Junior Julia Brueggemeyer, who finished 18th.  We are still looking to add 2-3 women on this team this season, come and be a part of something special!

    Thanks for your support, and we hope to see you at the St. X Cross Country Invitational this Saturday, Oct. 1.

            ​Finneytown soccer standout Jesse Cobbs is a leader on the pitch and in the classroom. As of Sept 10. Jesse has 18 goals and four assists in seven games. The school record for most goals in a season is 29.   His vocal leadership as a captain is a trait that has helped his team be successful.             The Mason XC Invitational was a tough day for the Finneytown Running Wildcats.  Hot weather, which turned into thunderstorms, and other hurdles had to be overcome!  
 
            Yet, our XC teams persevered and learned a lot!  Our top middle school girls runner was Jessica Sanders who finished 11th and medaled even after experiencing some muscle cramps in the race.  We were without some of our other top middle school runners, yet our team came together and finished well.
 
            Our middle school boys team was not able to compete as the race officials cancelled the meet due to thunderstorms in the area.
 
            Our high school teams were able to compete.  Our top high school girl was McKenzie Jones who ribboned and our top high school boy was Joel Steimle who also ribboned in his race.
 
 
            The women’s varsity soccer team will play Roger Bacon here at Finneytown today at
6:30 pm

  • The American Cancer Association is hosting a relay for life all-nighter at Wyoming high school on the night of May 12th from 6pm to 8 am. The point is to raise awareness for cancer patients, survivors, and those who have lost their battle with cancer. There will be food, music, and fun for all participants. Sign up by December 1st. All participants must raise $100 in fundraisers to come to the all-nighter. Participants will also get a free T-shirt and ALOT OF HOURS FOR NHS. Teachers and students are welcome. If you have any questions about sign ups, fundraising, or just general questions about the event, please come see McKenzie Jones.

  • Attention Seniors – Senior Fun Day has been RESCHEDULED to Thursday, April 27th.  Seniors that are scheduled for Government Testing are still required to be at school at 8:05 a.m.

  

  • Seniors!!! Your senior brick forms are do at the end of the week. This is your chance to leave your message/legacy to Finneytown.

  

  • ATTN:  Students who are going to Prom  
    Please use the Dury Ave gate entrance for the Cincinnati Zoo. Gate will be open between 8:00-9:00 pm. No one admitted after 9:00 pm! Then follow the signs to "A Tale as Old as Time" venue!

                        

  • After Prom tickets are on sale in the main office.  The cost is $10.00 per person.  After Prom applications may be picked up in the main office.  Students must have their student fees paid in order to purchase an After Prom ticket.  Tickets will be sold through lunch on April 21st.

  

  • Great Oaks is offering summer camps for current 8th and 9th graders at $50 a session.  Several programs are available at the summer camps.  Check the poster in the guidance office, future center or media center or see Ms. Foster in the guidance office for information.
